id they fix any silencers in their oesophagus? My daughter asked with a smirk. She was hinting at the lion in the circus tent which was not more than 900 metres from my office.
According to her teacher's 'wisdom', a lion's roaring can travel at least five miles, which was indeed true to my knowledge and experience.
I was under the impression that lion is the most dangerous creature on earth until I came across a survey on the top ten most deadliest species in the world.
The list mentions lion as the fifth dangerous creature, while mosquito tops the rankings. Shocked! It is very much true. Amongst all living beings, mosquito causes maximum deaths in the world, which counts up to millions.
There are numerous zoos and circus companies around the world that provides golden opportunity for animal enthusiasts, especially children to experience the bio-diversity that exists on our planet.
But I don't think the lions, tigers and bears living inside zoo or circus tents are happy campers.
When I raised this question, my daughter brushed aside pointing out that there is no room to measure the happiness index of animals when we kill almost 150 billion of them every year.
The number is quite big, isn't it? A recent finding reveals that in America itself 8.3 billion chickens are killed every year.
Now my daughter suggests an amendment to the rankings. "Human beings must be ranked first."
And to our uniqueness, we are the only creatures who kill members of our own species; 500,000 murders happen throughout the world in one year.
The recent story of Alvarenga- a fisherman from South Mexico, is hard to believe. He was literally 'at sea' for thirteen months after his boat capsized during a fishing expedition.
He had survived by eating raw fish and birds as well as drinking turtles' blood, urine and rainwater battling for his life.
The story can be counterproductive to veggies. Human beings are by birth a non-vegetarian too, otherwise how could one survive only by eating raw meat and drinking blood.
I always used to wonder that as a human being we are born so dependent and with lots of disabilities compared to these wild creatures. We were unable to walk or eat by our own until we reached a particular age, whereas animals knew everything including the art of swimming from birth.
I have always fascinated about acquiring the skills of an albatross that dozes while cruising at a speed of 25 miles per hour. Becoming a shark would be even better as it never catches any of the diseases including cancer.
You don't need to carry a gun or revolver if you have tongues of an arrow frog which is capable of killing 2,200 people at a time.
Next time you enter a zoo, notice one factor. Male animals look colourful and prettier than females, may it be a peacock, elephant or lion. Also, the males dominate the wild world.
Have you heard of clam, which doesn't have any gender issues. They start out as males but gradually transform to females, if and when required.
I don't know, among clams, who came from Mars and who from Venus?
But among human beings, women symbolise beauty though the power is still under debate.
My daughter's curiosity hasn't ended yet. "Dad, you haven't answered my question. Does the lion have a silencer?"
I answered her with a smile. The lion doesn’t roar because the trainer is a woman.
